The Phoenician Resort

Homer Flint and Ted Robinson (original 27-hole layout); reimagined into 18 holes by Phil Smith (2018)
Why we love this place

We love the Phoenician's transformation: Phil Smith took a sprawling 27-hole resort course and distilled it into one flowing 18 that hugs Camelback Mountain. It's polished, unmistakably Scottsdale, and a resort round we're always glad to point players toward.

About The Phoenician Resort

The Phoenician Golf Club belongs to the luxury Phoenician resort on the slopes of Camelback Mountain in Scottsdale. Golf here began as a 27-hole facility, with early nines shaped by Homer Flint and later work by the father-son team of Ted Robinson and Ted Robinson Jr. In 2018 the resort commissioned Scottsdale architect Phil Smith to reinvent the property. Over a roughly ten-month renovation, Smith used existing fairway corridors to reroute and rebuild the layout into a single cohesive 18-hole course, reopening on November 1, 2018. Every hole was rebuilt with new TifEagle greens and Bermuda fairways. The reimagined course plays to a par of 71, stretching to about 6,500 yards from the championship tees, with four tee sets and desert-canyon character woven throughout.
